The wisdom of my dad – - as shared on an Indiana summer night in 1984.
“Remember this Sis, no matter what you and any guy ever do together – - you are going to be the one remembered and talked about. So, go big — and don’t apologize for anything.”

And — the second best advice he ever shared, which applies to much more than cars…
“Never, ever let the tank get below a quarter full. It’s bad for everything.”

Just before I joined the army, he told me, “Never volunteer for anything and always look busy.” I used the latter advice to walk around Fort Devens, MA carrying a clipboard, counting light poles.

When I was 18, my dad told me the 5 things I can do to help secure a happy, comfortable, prosperous life:

    1. Get an education. A college education. No matter what it takes.

    2. Marry wisely.

    3. Save your money.

    4. Wait to have children.

    5. Never stop loving life, and never lose confidence in yourself.
